RevealTheIngredient
An IOS Application with the ability to scan a chemical ingredient label
I began developing RevealTheIngredient the summer of my freshman year. I was Googling the ingredients in the fertilizers and disinfectants around my house and it made me realize two things: 1) there are some dangerous ingredients in household chemicals and 2) the Googling process is very tedious (some of the labels had 30+ unusually-spelled ingredients!).
At the time, I had been experimenting with XCode and SwiftUI, so it seemed like a chance to turn this problem into a solution.
Since then, I have been working to grow RevealTheIngredient. I initially began with a very simple app, with a simple straightforward UI. That's what I submitted to the Congressional App Challenge. Through my school's MYP personal project program, I started to improve it from there. Through the personal project, I obtained valuable feedback. After that, I kept working on it, growing it, testing it. That summer, I made massive changes, adding new app views, integrating machine learning algorithms.
Throughout my junior year, I worked to make my app ready for publishing. I spent junior year adding new ingredients, getting my app to 20,000 ingredients in its database. I released RevealTheIngredient onto the App Store on June 7th, 2023. I released the second version on July 31st, 2023 with bug fixes and a more user-friendly user interface. I recently published the third version on October 19th, 2023 with over 1,000 new ingredients.
I plan to keep improving the app through user feedback and work towards a better version everyday. Please check it out!
